Hello, My Name is Jennifer.

I began my career in illustration when my illustrator friend broke his wrist mid-book. I could imitate his drawings well enough that his publisher picked me to finish the book. I found I couldn’t stop once I had developed my own style. eventually, I wrote and/or illustrated many more books with harpercollins, clarion, scholastic, and little brown.

I live and work in Portland, Maine and In addition to children’s books, I am a fine artist and show my work in galleries and museums throughout the country.

About me as a kid

Born in Pennsylvania, my family called many places home. Most memorable was a farm with over 100 animals! We dug our own pond and planted a forest of thousands of trees. I began drawing, sewing, and playing piano on this farm. At one time, my family lived in a house that looked like a castle and at another time, we oversaw the ocean in a modern house that looked like a cardboard box. At one point we lived so close to the ocean that I sometimes had to walk through the waves to get to my front door from the nearest street.

I went to three elementary schools, two middle schools, three high schools, and one college.
